Suffolk Campaign Combines Humour with Serious Message

Age UK Suffolk’s cosy new fundraiser – Slip Into Slippers – encourages sweepstakes and selfies to raise money for services for older people.

The fundraising initiative began on Monday and runs until Friday.  The charity hopes that businesses and individuals will arrange events and allow staff to wear slippers into work.

Jo Reeder, head of fundraising and marketing, said: “We’ve been so impressed by the number of companies who have ‘stepped’ on board to help us with this particular campaign.

“We’ve got businesses throughout Suffolk holding bake sales, taking slipper selfies and encouraging other slipper-related events which raise money for our charity.”

She added: “Projects like this are so important, not only from a pure fundraising perspective, but to get people talking more about the issues which affect older people, and to encourage them to think about further ways in which they can offer everyday support.”

Supported by Ipswich Building Society, the campaign has a social hashtag of #suffolkslippers. It is now an annual initiative for the county.
