A company co-founder used to tough international challenges was surprised at what a 350 mile London to Paris cycle ride took out of her.
Liz Christey, 47, heads up an award-winning events business, CCD Global Events, arranging corporate events all around the world,
A keen sportswoman, 47-year-old Liz was determined to complete a significant charity activity this year, so she took on the gruelling five-day charity cycle event in aid of Colchester’s St Helena Hospice.
In recent years, two of her husband’s sisters had lost battles to cancer, and one had been nursed in the hospice for her latter days.
“We have such an amazing facility in St Helena Hospice so I was really keen to take part in something which could help ensure its future for the community in and around Essex,” she said.
“I’m not going to hide it – it was an incredibly tough few days and to climb 15,000ft and be in the saddle for 350 miles takes some real determination, but being part of something so amazing was worth every single moment of pain and discomfort.
“It wasn’t meant to be easy, and for me, the thing to take away are the memories and friendships that are made during a group challenge like that. It’s truly unforgettable.”
Liz has already raised around £5,000 as a result of completing the cycling challenge, but is still hoping for more donations toward the great cause.
